Dr. Andrew McCoy Named Head of Building Construction Department

Professor Andrew McCoy, Preston and Catherine White Fellow, has been named head of the Department of Building Construction in the Myers-Lawson School of Construction at Virginia Tech.

McCoy, also the school’s associate director and director of the Virginia Center for Housing Research in the College of Architecture and Urban Studies, brings more than 20 years of experience as an academic and practitioner in construction, architecture, and engineering to the role.

Design Build Capstone Spring 2017

The Spring 2017 Design / Build Senior Capstone Project took place Thursday, May 3rd in Bishop Favrao Hall. This year's Request for Proposal was to provide full design and construction services for a state-of-the-art Environmental Sciences Center building located on a private college campus in Virginia Beach, Virginia with a total overall gross area of approximately 30,000 to 40,000 SF.

Dr. Eric Wetzel named 2017 CAUS Outstanding Doctoral Student!

     Dr. Eric Wetzel has been named the College of Architecture and Urban Studies Outstanding Doctoral Student! He successfully defended his dissertation on October 27, 2016 and completed his degree in December 2016. He is now working in the School of Building Science at Auburn University as a tenure-track Assistant Professor. Prior to pursuing his Ph.D. at Virginia Tech, Dr. Wetzel obtained multiple degrees related to the field of construction at diverse institutions including Western Kentucky University and Auburn University.

Capstone Winners for Fall 2016

The Fall 2016 Design / Build Senior Capstone Project took place Thursday, December 8th in Bishop-Favrao Hall.  This year's design build project was an Ambulatory Care Center and Medical Office Building to accommodate one or several medical tenants involved in an ambulatory care practice and/or medical offices. The building also included specific accommodations for an X-Ray and Imaging Center including an MRI, CT Scan and Ultrasound, a Minor Emergency Clinic and a Pharmacy.   The 120,000 s.f.

Congratulations Georg! Georg Reichard named Preston and Catharine White Fellow

Georg Reichard, associate professor of building construction in the Myers-Lawson School of Construction at Virginia Tech, has been named a Preston and Catharine White Fellow by the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors.

The fellowship is funded from the Preston and Catharine White Endowment for the Myers-Lawson School of Construction. The endowment was established in 2008 with a $1 million gift from Preston White, a member of the Class of 1962 who earned his bachelor’s degree in building construction, and his wife.

Red Team Wins Spring 2016 Capstone

The Spring 2016 Design / Build Senior Capstone Project took place Wednesday, May 4, 2016 in Bishop-Favrao Hall. The Spring 2016 capstone project scope included a full services Design Build proposal for a Class A Office Building Core and Shell suitable for leasing office space to upscale clients such as lawyers, accounting firms, stock brokers, etc. The facility should be approximately 105,000 s.f. and should include fully operational Public space, Elevator Lobbies and warm, lighted shell for future tenants.

BC Student Ambassador's family named "2016 Virginia Tech Family of the Year"

At the conclusion of every school year, the Lomaka quadruplets pack four sets of possessions into a huge van. It was this van that carried them to their first day of move-in at Virginia Tech. This May, it will accompany them home after they graduate from four separate colleges within the university and move on to life in four separate corners of the United States.
