Georg Reichard, associate professor of building construction in the Myers-Lawson School of Construction at Virginia Tech, has been named a Preston and Catharine White Fellow by the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors.
The fellowship is funded from the Preston and Catharine White Endowment for the Myers-Lawson School of Construction. The endowment was established in 2008 with a $1 million gift from Preston White, a member of the Class of 1962 who earned his bachelor’s degree in building construction, and his wife.
Reichard will hold the fellowship for one year. The Myers-Lawson School of Construction is housed jointly in the College of Architecture and Urban Studies and the College of Engineering.
A member of the Virginia Tech community since 2004, Reichard’s research focuses on numerical methods, simulation, and data models specifically in the area of building sciences. His current work focuses on building performance, energy efficiency in buildings, retrofitting solutions, systems integration, integrated control strategies and smart building materials – using modeling and simulation assessment techniques to improve our buildings, their systems, and operation processes.
His research has been supported by the National Science Foundation, and he has worked closely with the U.S. Department of Energy and other agencies. He holds leadership roles in the Building Enclosure Technology and Environment Council of the National Institute of Building Sciences.
Reichard received his master’s degree and Ph.D. from Graz University of Technology. His doctoral theses received the Energy-Technology-Program Award from the Upper-Austrian Government. He also received an Erwin-Schroedinger Fellowship to work at the University of California, Berkeley.
