Teaching: Josh specializes in building students' non-technical (soft) skills such as leadership, critical thinking and professional communication. Topics include conflict management, delivering effective presentations, and understanding team dynamics. He teaches in module and workshop format throughout the undergraduate CEM and BC curricula and offers the following, more traditional courses at the undergraduate and graduate level:

Reserach: His foundational research focuses on better understanding the role that technology plays in supporting the development of global, virtual teams in complex project environments. Within this context, he has studied the role that leadership, conflict and language play in team performance. He performs action reseach with industry partners to better understand recruitment and retention of construction craft and staff.

Service: His service focuses on supporting student professional development, in part through creating a more diverse and inclusive environment at Virginia Tech. Josh leads these efforts at the school, college and university level. He also coordinates the School's undergraduate Industry Mentorship Program and high school outreach activities.
