Connor Hetman
My name is Connor Hetman and I am currently in my second year in the Building Construction program after transferring to Virginia Tech from Civil Engineering at Old Dominion University.
I found my passion for construction around third grade. Working with my dad’s company, A Step in Time Chimney Sweeps, and interning with large general contractors has confirmed it truly is something I want to make my career. Following in my dad and sister’s (both Civil Engineering graduates) footsteps, I am now the third Hokie in my family, and I would not want to be anywhere else.
What I enjoy most about my major is how Myers-Lawson School of Construction truly feels like a giant second family. Students and faculty all genuinely care about doing whatever it takes to help each other succeed. I also love how most of our classes are super hands-on, with some even getting us on jobsites in the first week and the close connections MLSoC has with industry members.
I spent the summer of 2021 interning with W.M. Jordan on a hotel project in Virginia Beach and the summer of 2022 with HITT Contracting, one of the top 35 largest general contractors in the country, in their Falls Church, VA headquarters. I realized how in demand we really are when I knocked on the door of jobsite trailer on campus last spring and began a part time internship with Kjellstrom and Lee on the new Data and Decision Science classroom building.
I love sharing my love for VT and helping prospective Hokies discover my same love for construction, so please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have.
