Our Students

Our students find our program through diverse pathways. Some have family members working in construction, others have always been dreaming of really building something that lasts. Quite a few of our students discover this career option when they are already at Virginia Tech and then want to transfer into the Building Construction program - some entry information for transfer students can be found in the sidebar.

For any student interested in our program, sooner or later the question comes up regarding any computer and software requirments we expect our students to have available and accessible. Since this is a moving target, we provide the most current requirements in the section

Computer & Software Requirments

Once students are in our program, they engage in a variety of hands-on activities inside and outside the classroom. In our program, the different construction and trade organizations are combined in an umbrella student organization called the "Constructor's Consortium". The cost of studying at Virginia Tech can become a burden for parents but also students, who often have to come up with their share in contributing to their education. The Department of Building Construction offers one of the largest number of individual scholarships at VT, many of which can be applied to through a single "General Scholarship Application". To learn more about scholarships and how to apply, please go to

The hard work our student put into their education pays off as our graduates go on into rewarding careers. Our students have an extremly high placement rate, with many receiving several offers to chose from. To learn more about career opportunities and internships please visit
