Ezekiel Volk believed that when he graduated high school he would begin his football career playing Division 1 football for Norfolk State. It wasn't until the A. James Clark Scholars Program that Volk realized he had a choice.
Ezekiel Volk had never given Virginia Tech much thought. He thought the way for him to afford to go to college was through a football scholarship. Volk's high school career counselor sent him to a fall visitation at Virginia Tech for underrepresented high school seniors and first generation students. In March of 2017, Volk was sent a letter offering a full-tuition scholarship to attend Virginia Tech as apart of the first cohorts of the A. James Clark Scholars program.
Volk made the decision to end his football career and pursue a degree in Building Construction at Virginia Tech. The A. James Clark Scholars program supports Virginia Tech's campus wide intiative to increase access and double enrollment among underrepresented minorities by 2022. The $15 million investment is the largest scholarship gift ever made to the school. It gives scholars, like Volk, paid tuition with room and board for the fall and spring semesters. It provides progammatic support for volunteering, community service, enrichment seminars, leadership and business development.
