Once a semester at Virginia Tech, five students and one faculty member are recognized with Aspire! awards. Aspire! awards represent Virginia Tech’s five aspirations for student learning. These aspirations are Courageous Leadership, Civility, Curiosity, Self Understanding and Integrity and Ut Prosim.
Nick Kaloudis, a student in the Department of Building Construction, received the Ut Prosim award which is given to an individual who embraces Ut Prosim as a way of life. Ut Prosim is Virginia Tech’s motto and means “That I May Serve”. Nick Kaloudis is a co-director of STEP UP, which is apart of VT Engage. VT Engage is a service learning and leadership engagement office on Virginia Tech’s campus. Specifically, STEP UP is the student leader group. Kaloudis’ role is to manage the student leaders and conduct trip management and planning.
Students involved in STEP UP lead service trips that occur all throughout the semester. Kaloudis is personally leading his own service trip to New Orleans over winter break. In 2017, he led service trips to Feeding America Southwest Virginia every Friday afternoon. He continues to lead trips on Friday afternoons this year as well. Additionally, you can also find Kaloudis leading Campus Kitchen delivery shifts, a member of the Food Justice Club and apart of Phi Sigma Pi National Honors Fraternity.
