
Thomas Mills, Associate Professor of Building Construction, Myers-Lawson School of Construction, in Virginia Tech’s College of Architecture and Urban Studies has been selected as The Associated Schools of Construction 2016 Outstanding Researcher. This award is made annually to a research faculty member of a four-year ASC member University. The award recognizes the faculty member's quality research and his contribution to the dissemination of scholarly work within the ASC community, and for service to the Associated Schools of Construction. The ASC is a 52-year old organization comprised of over 140-Universitiy members with representing 700 faculty members involved in construction education. Virginia Tech is one of the ASC founding members.
The ASC Board of Directors, upon receipt of recommendations considers each nominee for designation as the Outstanding Researcher. Thom received his award from the ASC Vice President Ben Farrow of Auburn University at the 52nd ASC International Conference in Provo, Utah on April 15, 2016.
During Thom’s career his early academic research began his focus on research into construction education, and later followed by research into the use of information technology to improve field communications, including wearable and on-site cameras, and smartphones. Since 2008 Thom has been conducted research in the area of construction safety.
